Supporting Our Students—From the Early Years to Graduation and Beyond

At Shawanaga First Nation, we believe education is about more than just academics. It’s about nurturing confident, capable young people who are connected to their culture, their community, and their future. That journey starts in the early years—and we’re proud to support students every step of the way, from Junior Kindergarten through post-secondary and beyond.

Early Learning at Shawanaga Kinomaugewgamik

Our community school, Shawanaga Kinomaugewgamik, welcomes students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 in a supportive, culturally rich environment close to home. We focus on helping children build a strong foundation through engaging classroom learning, language and cultural teachings, and positive daily routines.

Transitioning to Parry Sound for Grades 6–12

When students move on to Grades 6 through 12, they attend school in nearby Parry Sound. Transportation is provided to ensure a safe, smooth transition and continued success as students grow into independent learners.

For more information and additional resources, you can also visit the Post-Secondary Education section on the Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) website.

Supporting Our Post-Secondary Students

Each year, Shawanaga First Nation proudly supports 15 to 20 post-secondary students—both full-time and part-time—as they pursue college or university education. Whether you’re just starting your journey or continuing your studies, we’re here to help you access the resources you need to succeed.

Post-secondary education funding is reviewed annually in May. If you’re planning to apply, be sure to submit your completed application no later than May 1st each year. You can download the current application form below.

If you have any questions about eligibility, deadlines, or how to apply, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Education Administration Office—we’re happy to help.
