Protecting Land, Supporting the Community
The Lands & Resources department manages land use, environmental stewardship, and community planning for Shawanaga First Nation. This includes how land is used, accessed, and protected for current and future generations.
Land Management
Shawanaga First Nation operates under its own Land Code, allowing the community to manage its lands independently.
This includes:
Land use and planning
Permits and approvals
Leases and land access
Community consultation on land-related decisions
Species at Risk Program
Shawanaga First Nation supports the protection of local wildlife and habitats through its Species at Risk program. This includes monitoring species, supporting conservation efforts, and helping protect the natural environment within the territory.
