At Shawanaga First Nation, our Housing and Social Services Department is here to serve with care, understanding, and a deep commitment to community wellbeing. We know that safe housing and dependable social support are essential building blocks for strong families and a thriving nation. Whether you’re applying for assistance or exploring housing options, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Housing Services

The Housing Department provides safe, affordable housing options to eligible Shawanaga First Nation members. Whether you’re looking to rent or interested in CMHC-supported homeownership, our team is here to help.

Current community housing includes:

A 10-plex with 11 units

4 rental houses

1 semi-attached home (2 units)

11 CMHC single-family homes

These homes are managed and maintained with care, ensuring they meet the needs of our community members.

CMHC Loans

We offer access to Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) programs that support community members in achieving homeownership through low-interest loans and housing subsidies.

We understand that every situation is unique. Our team is committed to supporting you with dignity and confidentiality.

Social Services

Social Services are provided through the Ontario Works program and help eligible members meet their basic needs while working toward employment, education, or stability.

Support may include:

Employment support and training opportunities

Help accessing additional programs and resources

Eligibility & How to Apply

Eligibility for both housing and social services is determined based on a number of factors, including:

Membership in Shawanaga First Nation

Residency status (on-reserve)

Income and financial need

Current housing situation (for rentals or CMHC applications)
