Medical Transportation Driver

Fulltime

Salary: $22/hour

3-Month Probation

 

Position Summary

The Medical Transportation Driver will undergo the directions of the Executive Director of Shawanaga Healing Centre, and will primarily be responsible for providing ground transportation for community members to and from their scheduled medical appointments. The Medical Transportation Driver will ensure that all transportation forms will be billed appropriately including securing accurate information and fully completed verification data slips from all medical service providers as may be required by Health Canada. This role will respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination and their right to privacy and dignity. Vehicle safety and safe driving practices are necessary and are an important aspect of tis role.  

The Medical Transportation Driver reports to the Executive Director.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing ground transportation for community members to scheduled medical appointments.
  • Ensure all transportation forms are filled out and billed accurately. 
  • Ensure all verification forms and data slips are completed.
  • Ensure vehicle safety checks are completed daily. 
  • Ensure all client confidential information is kept private. 
  • Be pleasant and effectively with community members.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required.
  • First AID & CPR or willing to obtain.
  • Good driving record
  • 5 Years of driving experience in various environments and under various weather conditions.
  • Class G Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Defensive Driver Certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Safe Patient Lifting/Handling is an asset.
  • Be pleasant and communicate effectively with community members, in a potentially volatile and emotionally charged situation.
  • Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal volatile and emotional charged situation. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verballing and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Demonstration of good time management skills.
  • Ability to physically assist clients with disabilities and mobility devices.
  • A Driver’s medical is required annually. 

 

Preference may be given to Aboriginal candidates with relevant on reserve employment experience and/or those with knowledge and understanding of Shawanaga First Nation history and community. 

Successful candidates must be able to produce and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check (CPIC).
